We have an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our talented, diverse team in Redondo Beach, CA.

We have an opening for either a Principal Cyber Systems Engineer or a Senior Cyber Systems Engineer to join our qualified, diverse team. We are seeking a team member who wants to solve interesting, complex problems to help protect our nation. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support. The position will be located at our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA. Most of the work will be done on-site, with some flexibility for partial teleworking based upon business/program needs.

What You’ll get to Do:


As a Cyber Systems Engineer on this team, you will support a very fast-moving team to help design, model and develop the ground system for the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) prototype space vehicle system. The space system is comprised of 1 Space Vehicle providing protected communications to a ground terminal and controlled by a Mission Operations Center (MOC) hosting Bus and Payload commanding software intended to launch in March 2025. SSC’s vision is to deliver a prototype vehicle and conduct on-orbit activation and testing.

This program builds upon the proof of concept phase for the production efforts intended to begin in 2024.  You will join an integrated, agile team ensuring that the MOC and SW products are secure. Core Responsibilities:
•    Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
•    Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software
•    Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems
•    Ensures software standards are met

This position may be filled at either a Principal  or a Senior Principal level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Cyber Systems Engineer:

•    Bachelor's in Science degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's in Science degree with 3 years of relevant experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
•    Active DoD Secret clearance

•    Design and engineer solutions that meet business requirements, cyber security practices, and compliance regulations
•    Provide security guidance in compliance with NIST 800-53 and cyber security requirements
•    Develop and mature cyber test procedures, collecting artifacts, and supporting the system team on the cyber security assessment and SW acceptance testing
•    Assess technical designs and identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures
•    Identify and communicate current and emerging security threats
•    Identify risks and provide guidance regarding remediation of gaps to facilitate a hardened and sustainable solutions
•    Take ownership of solutions, assignments, actions items and issues, and remain accountable for their completion
•    Lead effectively especially with other team members, customers and key stakeholders and foster team success
•    Communicate and collaborate with leadership and technical teams to include systems and network administrators, security engineers, and IT Support teams
•    Security and risk assessments for services, applications, hardware, and systems 
•    Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software 
•    Familiar with software standards to ensure standards are met
•    Bachelor's in Science degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's in Science degree with 3 years of relevant experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

•    Bachelor's in Science degree with 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's in Science degree with 7 years of relevant experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
•    Active DoD Secret clearance
•    Design and engineer solutions that meet business requirements, cyber security practices, and compliance regulations
•    Provide security guidance in compliance with NIST 800-53 and cyber security requirements
•    Develop and mature cyber test procedures, collecting artifacts, and supporting the system team on the cyber security assessment and SW acceptance testing
•    Assess technical designs and identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures
•    Identify and communicate current and emerging security threats
•    Identify risks and provide guidance regarding remediation of gaps to facilitate a hardened and sustainable solutions

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Ability to patch systems, scan systems for vulnerabilities (Security Center/Nessus, SCAP), harden systems (DISA STIGS), audit log files, update virus definitions and participate in successful IS accreditations/inspections 
•    Familiar with vRealize and standing up cyber dashboards for alert monitoring
•    Ability to plan for and maintain development networks, storage, COTS upgrades, virus definitions and collaboration tools, create and maintain user accounts 
•    Professional/technical certifications: CISSP, CISM, CCSP, Security Plus, AWS Certified Security - Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Security Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect 
•    DoD 8570 IAT/IAM Level II or III certification 
•    Experience in areas such as system security, network, and application security 
•    Knowledge of current and emerging cyber security threats, vulnerabilities, and controls 
•    Contributor for architectural/industry changes in the area of cyber security 
•    Experience performing risk assessments of both internally and externally hosted solutions 
•    Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems 
•    Experience with operating in an Agile/DevOps environment 
•    Experience with Scripting 
•    Experience submitting ongoing authorization inputs and artifacts to support authorizing authority’s ongoing assessment and authorization decisions
 

Salary Range: $118,000.00 - $177,000.00Salary Range 2: $146,300.00 - $219,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
