As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will develop and demonstrate the next generation materials and manufacturing technologies for a wide range of space applications, including reusable rockets, orbital habitats and ground support systems. Designing and analyzing metallic and composite prototypes are critical skills for fast-paced material and manufacturing technology development.

Responsibilities:
- Rapid prototype design, analysis, and test evaluation in support of new Materials and Manufacturing technology development for cost reduction, improved re-usability, and performance. Examples include composite structures, 3D printed metal parts
- Design optimization validation through finite element analysis or classical hand analysis
- Perform requirements analysis and define SOW with customers, key stake holders and suppliers
- Develop and execute test plans and conduct lab testing
- Review and interpret test data to facilitate rapid design iterations
- Implement safety policies during test and operations
- Maintain project schedule and report status
- Coordinate with procurement and suppliers/partners/vendors to ensure projects are executed properly
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with Blue Origin policies and procedures
- Review and approve technical reports from internal and external suppliers
- Write technical proposals
- Facilitate technology transition from research and development to production
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 6 years of design experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
- Experience on recently developed aircraft or launch vehicles in one or more of the following areas:
- Metallic structure design
- Skin-stringer and sandwich panel design
- Load analysis and first order strength assessment and sizing
- Material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques
- Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware
- Experience with developing, writing and updating test procedures
- Knowledge of fabrication and integration processes, systems engineering and quality control practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work optimally both independently and as part of our interdisciplinary team
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired:
- Strong understanding of composite and metallic design and analysis methods
- Strong mechanical design and integration skills using CATIA V5 and the CATIA composite software workbenches
- Demonstrated expertise with any industry standard analysis codes: Ansys, Patran/Nastran, Simulia, Abaqus, Optistruct, LS/Dyna, Hypermesh, Hypersizer
- Experienced with design, analysis, and fabrication of composite/metallic primary structures for aerospace
- Strong, proven ability and desire to understand complex systems, investigate and solve ambitious problems, and work in a dynamic environment
- Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10
- Experience with composite manufacturing (AFP, ATL, Compression molding, Thermal forming/stamp forming)
- Experience with metal additive manufacturing processes (LPBF, DED, Cold Spray, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control
- Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design, analysis, and testing
- Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
