Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division, OPIR & Geospatial Systems BU, Next Generation Polar (NGP) program, has an opening for a Director Engineering 1 - Space Vehicle Lead – Next Generation Polar to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California and will report functionally to the Vehicle and Software Engineering Director, and programmatically to the NGP Vice President and Program Manager.


The Next Generation Polar (NGP) program will deliver two world-class resilient Polar missile warning satellites capable of detecting advanced adversary missiles and ensuring continued operations in contested environments.
The NGP Space Vehicle (SV) IPT Lead will be responsible for all aspects of design, development, production, integration, test, and verification of the NGP space vehicles over the product lifecycle. Responsibilities relate to the spacecraft bus, communication payload, mission payload accommodations, and integration efforts spanning space and ground segments. Effective communication and excellent leadership characteristics are essential.


The SV IPT Lead responsibilities include:

  • Space Vehicle IPT strategy and execution (cost, schedule, technical, quality, risk and opportunity management, forecasting)

  • Effective communication and collaboration between the SV IPT and all other IPTs to ensure overall program success

  • Act as customer interface for technical and execution matters related to the SV IPT

  • Bid and proposal of supplemental work related to the SV IPT within the NGP program

  • Partnership with Global Supply Chain to leverage NGC buying power and address supply chain challenges

  • Collaboration with OGS BU IPTs and functional leaders to develop and nurture a highly competent and engaged team that delivers on commitments and embodies “best culture”

  • Support to SSSD initiatives (e.g. OPIR architecture, R&D investments, employee career development, cross-organization experience rotations)

 
Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in engineering and/or hardware management

  • Ten (10) years of experience in project or program management, leading people, projects, or programs across diverse technical teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex design efforts.

  • Demonstrated understanding of flight hardware lifecycle and production.

  • Active TS and/or SCI Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:              

  • Master’s Degree in STEM or an MBA

  • Twenty (20) years of experience in project or program management, leading people, projects, or programs across diverse technical teams.

  • Demonstrated discipline in meeting cost and schedule targets for technically complex work

  • Experience with NG Eagle 3 product line

  • Experience delivering Class A flight hardware

  • Excellent written and verbal communication ability to all levels of the organization and outside stakeholders

  • Experience across all phases of program lifecycle

  • Excellent conflict management and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to make tough decisions

Salary Range: $190,600.00 - $286,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
