Vast is looking for a DevSecOps Engineer, reporting to the Director, Ground Segment & Mission Operations, to focus on enhancing the security, reliability, and efficiency of our development and operations processes, with a particular emphasis on our work in the aerospace sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS, programming languages such as Python, Go, or Java, and be well-versed in Kubernetes and infrastructure as code practices, particularly Terraform. Familiarity with cybersecurity standards relevant to the aerospace industry is crucial. 

This will be a full-time, in-person, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities: 

  • Implement and maintain DevSecOps practices across our cloud-based platforms, with a focus on AWS EKS
  • Integrate security measures into the software development lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications
  • Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters for operational efficiency
  • Utilize Terraform to manage infrastructure provisioning
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace-specific cybersecurity standards and regulations
  • Regularly assess systems for vulnerabilities and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to foster a culture of security
  • Maintain thorough documentation of processes, systems, and standards
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, methodologies, and industry trends in DevSecOps

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or other engineering discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in DevSecOps roles
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or Java
  • Experience with IaC tools, especially Terraform
  • Cybersecurity: Knowledge of cybersecurity standards applicable to the aerospace industry
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience selecting and implementing solutions from cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Strong understanding of compliance requirements as it relates to NASA and the Department of Defense (i.e. NIST SP 800-171, CMMC 2.0, DFARS 252.204-7012, FIPS 140-2, etc.)

Pay Range:

  • DevSecOps Engineer II: $130,000 - $165,000
  • Senior DevSecOps Engineer: $155,000 - $190,000

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package. U.S. EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE STATUS

The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing. This status includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), and asylees and refugees with such status granted, not pending.
