Duties
As a Statistician at the GS-14 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plans and executes surveys to include establishing general specifications and detailed time schedules governing: data content, collection, and dissemination; instrument design; analysis; and modifying systems design.
- Collects primary data from original sources and secondary data from records, instruments, or reports established for historical, administrative, regulatory, or quality control purposes.
- Analyzes findings, evaluates the statistical limitations of available data, and specifies the range of logically possible explanations of the findings.
- Utilizes a variety of statistical techniques: analysis of frequency distributions; analysis and modeling of multivariates; sampling; analysis of variance; determining confidence limits; and/or estimating magnitudes.

- This a remote position, the expected hours of work are covered by multiple time zones EST, CST, MST, and PST.
Qualifications
You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below. See below and Education section for the Basic Requirement.
In addition to meeting the education requirement you must also meet the specialized experience requirement below.
Basic Requirement: A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level.- Determining the appropriate statistical method to analyze and interpret data.
- Applying analytical techniques to identify anomalies in large volumes of data and
- Leading or overseeing data analysis involving large volumes of data.
