Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Lead Software System Architect for its Colorado Springs, CO location. 

This position will support the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Satellite Systems Division specifically the Space C2 program.

This role will direct the overall software architecture and design activities on Boeing’s next generation of Satellite Command and Control software systems.  The software architect selected for this position must have a passion for technical leadership; having demonstrated technical direction for entire program areas on all aspects of the system design.  The Space C2 program area focuses on delivery of Space Control Mission applications including Modeling and Simulation frameworks, Digital Twin integration techniques, and C2 planning applications for use by Space Force Guardians.  This position is for a high performer with a proven track record in development of new and emerging software system designs with ability to balance technical requirements, cost, risk, and schedule.

This position will serve as the Modeling and Simulation lead for program requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs required to deliver Test, Training, and Exercise solutions to Boeing’s customers. That leadership includes skills required to develop and integrate software components into larger systems of systems designs.  Serving as a key leader within the software development team, you will be responsible for the entire program software development lifecycle, from idea creation, research and development, all the way through to maintenance and support of the customer’s delivered system. More importantly, you will have a significant impact on the success of our projects.  Your ability and willingness to mentor other software engineers on software architecture and implementation approaches is key to growing the next generation of leaders for future programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline engineering team to build and implement Modeling and Simulation software systems
  • Contribute in all phases of the software development lifecycle in an Agile development environment
  • Perform requirements development and interface definitions
  • Perform software architecture trade studies and modifications to meet new requirements
  • Develop solutions using Java or C++
  • Analyze problem reports and solving software defects
  • Develop leadership skills and experience
  • Perform guiding and mentorship of junior software engineers

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location options.

This position requires an active Top Secret and SCI post start. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or other technical degree
  • 10+ years of experience with developing Java or C++ software
  • 10+ years of experience in development of new system architectures and designs
  • Experience in Modeling and Simulation software system development
  • Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the Boeing Enterprise Simulation Test, Training, and Analysis Framework (BESTAF)
  • Demonstrated skills in N-Tier architectures, message-oriented middleware, service-oriented architecture, web development, and containerization
  • Messaging formats and protocols experience including unicast/multicast, TCP/IP, VMF, Link16, Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol data units (PDUs), enterprise service bus (ESB), and message brokers
  • Experience with application program interface (API) layer and means to share simulation data for a containerized deployment of digital twins/models

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:

$173,400 - $234,600
