Spectrolab, has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Manager of Engineering Technology/Strategy in our Sylmar, CA facility. The successful candidate will manage a diverse team of engineers with expertise ranging from semiconductor materials growth, semiconductor solar cell wafer fabrication, solar cell assembly and stringing through solar panel and solar wing assembly and test. This individual will also oversee all airborne searchlight illumination engineers.
Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, manufactures space solar power assemblies that power satellites, the International Space Station, and the Juno spacecraft amongst many others in its 67-year history. Spectrolab solar cells lead and have led the way in power conversion of space solar illumination to electrical power on yesterday’s and today’s solar-powered space vehicles. As the premier semiconductor fabrication facility within the Boeing Company, Spectrolab engineers are also on the forefront of developing tomorrow’s space solar cells and airborne searchlights. The next Senior Director of Engineering Technology/Strategy will have the responsibility to harness innovative ideas that lead to future of space power generation and airborne searchlights from inception through production.
Position Responsibilities:
- People Management
- Manage a team of, at present, approximately 60 engineers
- Develop that team through constant assessment, insight, and interaction to encourage career development within a rapidly expanding team
- Technology Development and Management
- Oversee Internal Research and Development efforts
- Oversee outside-sponsored efforts, both commercial and US Government-sponsored programs, to advance Spectrolab’s space power and airborne searchlight products and technology
- Seek and foment adjacent technology development opportunities that lead to future Spectrolab products
- Provide Expert Consultation
- Advise the Spectrolab CEO and CFO
- Advise the Spectrolab Senior Leadership Team
- Advise our diverse customer base
- Promote and Ensure Production Safety and Development Cohesion
- Ensure that the Engineering team safely and seamlessly supports all Spectrolab organizations such as Manufacturing, Program Management and Business Development
- Ensure that next-generation products meet long range business goals and objectives.
- Oversee Lean & Process Improvement Projects
- Oversee and direct six-sigma initiates leading to continuous, measurable manufacturing improvements
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Work Authorization:
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering and/or a Technical discipline
- Engineering management experience, including senior management
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and optical device development
- Prior experience in solar power development, implementation, and production
- Active Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

Summary pay range: 191,250 – 258,750
