As a Materials and Processes Engineer you'll work on a broad range of projects related to the characterization, qualification, and/or failure analysis of aerospace-related materials and processes. This position will give you the opportunity to have insight into and support for virtually all Lockheed Martin Space programs, and may include work in other Lockheed Martin business Areas. You will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with LM Fellows and Subject Matter Experts, as you develop, qualify, and investigate materials and processes related to adhesive bonding.
In this role you will:
• Be a Subject Matter Expert in adhesive bonding, surface preparation, and related processes
• Perform Materials and Processes (M&P) technical engineering assignments
• Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions to design and manufacturing challenges
• Lead M&P qualifications
• Coordinate with other disciplines such as Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Design Engineering
We're looking for:
• Technical expert in adhesive bonding, surface preparation, and related processes
• Ability to lead projects and communicate key information or recommendations to manufacturing, design, program management, and customers
• Ability to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects, and timeline pressure to meet deadlines
• Typically looking for at least 9 years of professional experience, or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree
• US Citizenship required.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree
• Experience with one or more of the following:
- Development of test plans
- Execution of Test Plans
- Manufacturing implementation
• Experience with process control and requirements management in an aerospace production environment
• Experience with adhesive bonding process qualifications
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis of adhesive bond failures, and knowledge of failure modes for adhesive bonds
• US Citizenship
Desired Skills:
• Experience with Non-Destructive Examinations/Inspections for bonded hardware, design principles and limitations of NDE/NDI Standards creation.
• Knowledge of advanced surface preparation inspection techniques
• Knowledge of Critical Flaw Size/Effects of Defects

The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, or Washington is $100,400 - $192,500. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
