ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING ENGINEER 

Orbion Space Technology is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Team.  The candidate will collaborate with Orbion’s electronics supply chain and manufacturing partners to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of electronics products to Orbion’s customers. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Serve as the technical liaison between Orbion’s internal Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations to meet customer delivery objectives. 
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Orbion and external Electronics Manufacturing Partners to drive timely and high-quality manufacturing of Orbion’s electronics products. Which includes acting as the primary point of contact for non-conforming product, troubleshooting, failure investigations, and corrective actions. 
  • Lead manufacturing and test process development with a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement. 
  • Utilize manufacturing and test data trends to implement, simplify, and automate high-reliability process improvements such that the Manufacturing Organization can operate independently of the Engineering Organization. 
  • Lead design improvement and cost-reduction initiatives to meet departmental objectives without compromising on quality. 
  • Design, validate, and implement tooling and special test equipment (STE) to improve repeatability and efficiency in manufacturing. 
  • Contribute to design reviews acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Design-for-Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA), Design-for-Test (DFT), yield improvements, quality control, and supplier capability. 
  • Develop and implement training materials for manufacturing and test personnel. 
  • Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to manufacturing, which may include but is not limited to: Work Instructions, Test Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Bills of Materials, Alternate Parts Lists, and Mechanical/Assembly Drawings. 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must meet definition of United States Person 
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, industrial engineering, or similar. 
  • 3+ years’ experience manufacturing or testing electronic hardware for space, aerospace, automotive, or similar high-reliability applications. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with minimal supervision. 
  • Familiarity with Design-For-Manufacture (DFM) or Design-For-Test (DFT) principles for electronic hardware. 
  • Willingness to travel on occasion (10%).  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

PREFFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • 10+ years’ experience manufacturing or testing electronic hardware for space, aerospace, automotive, or similar high-reliability applications. 
  • Experience with electronics part selection, alternate part analysis, and electronics BOM management 
  • Proficiency with typical electrical test equipment – DMMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, loads, etc.  
  • Demonstrated hands-on electronics skills including soldering, rework, polymerics, or cable/harness fab.  
  • Familiarity with NASA or IPC workmanship standards such as J-STD, 8739.X, or WHMA-A-620. 
  • Experience with Mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks 
  • Experience with PCB CAD software such as Altium 
  • Demonstrated experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment 
  • Experience with basic industrial engineering methodologies such as DFMEA, PFMEA, statistical process control, and database management
