Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Staff Engineer-Launch Operations within the Mechanical Engineering and Ground Support Department.  The primary work location for this position at Northrop Grumman’s Space Park Campus in Redondo Beach, California.

As a Staff Engineer-Launch Operations, a qualified candidate is expected to have a broad understanding of space hardware, testing methods, floor operations, and tools. The work is primarily at Space Park but can include periodic travel depending on the specific program requirements. 

Daily tasks for the Staff Engineer-Launch Operations include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with Launch Systems Integration team members and customer representatives.

  • Identify and secure launch site processing facility.

  • Perform technical planning for launch processing operations.

  • Develop schedule for launch processing operations.

  • Develop launch processing Concept of Operations documentation.

  • Stand up launch processing facility at customer selected launch site.

  • Coordinate complex and dynamic schedules with program and customer representatives.

  • Coordinate resources, personnel, tools and hardware required to process space vehicles at launch site.

  • Coordinate across many technical disciplines to define operations and accomplish work efficiently.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 14 years of engineering experience OR a Master's of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline plus 12 years of engineering experience.

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Previous experience supporting launch processing of space vehicles.

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • Previous experience in designing and executing test series.

  • Experience writing procedures for aerospace applications.

Salary Range: $149,900.00 - $224,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
