Sr. Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Maxar is hiring a Sr. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role you will support the EHS program development and implementation.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor air emission permit conditions including, but not limited to,
  • Keep track of chemical usages and equipment operating hours.
  • Maintain electronic records required by the air district.
• Perform weekly hazardous waste storage area inspections and maintain proper housekeeping.
• Oversee hazardous waste disposal and maintain associated records.
• Conduct annual chemical fume hood certification testing.
• Maintain EHS programs such as the chemical tracking system and Safety Data Sheet electronic program.
• Evaluate office workstation for proper ergonomic setup.
• Respond to emergency life safety issues.
• Conduct safety walk-through of manufacturing and laboratory areas.
• Manage Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. Collect stormwater samples and conduct inspections as required by applicable regulations.
• Maintain EHS computer-based training modules.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
• Minimum of 4 years of experience working in the EHS field
• Bachelor’s degree in a science related field
• Working knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations
• Ability to travel to Mountain View and San Jose offices as needed
• Ability to be on call on a 24-hr basis to provide emergency assistance and response on critical life safety issues.
• Able to lift to 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in the use of MS Access, Excel, and Word and Adobe Acrobat
• Able to work independently and efficiently with minimum supervision.
• Possession of the 40-hr HAZWOPER certification is highly desirable.
• Able to use a full-face respirator and SCBA and pass the respirator medical evaluation.
• Able to obtain first aid and CPR certification.
• Available to obtain ATF Explosive Possessor clearance from ATF.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$82,000.00 - $136,000.00 annually.

 

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
