As Vice President Business Development, you'll define the strategic approach for gaining critical new business development opportunities, the development and execution of current and future capture/growth activities, and influencing stakeholders and customers on win strategies. You'll drive strategic capture and BD lifecycle opportunities, develop foundations for the overall win strategy, and oversee the technical approach for each new product development/planning activity, ensuring all Business Development activities are related to the needs, issues and challenges of the customer. Your duties will also include staying current on market trends, key customer budgets, and future customer needs, and provide strategic guidance and inputs to align to customer requirements.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Business Development, Marketing or a related field

  • Current and active Top Secret/SCI clearance required

  • Relevant experience may substitute for required education

  • Progressive experience leading and overseeing the development of account plans and capture plans for new business opportunities

  • Working knowledge and experience with engineering support acquisition organizations

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following disciplines: Business development, capture management, program management, science and engineering programs, acquisition processes, opportunity identification and qualification

  • Ability to use insight of the organization's internal and external business environment to improve outcomes that affect business/account; proven ability to drive positive change with continuous improvement

  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and understand complex technical and program interdependencies

  • Proven leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage capture activities that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds and experience levels

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and an exquisite attention to detail, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business leaders and to internal and external customers

  • Must possess strong human relations skills to select, develop, coach, mentor, discipline and reward employees; possess well-developed interpersonal skills to manage, lead, and direct; ability to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and identify solutions

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense (Civilian), NASA/Civil or commercial space and/or US Military, with an understanding of defense, aerospace, intelligence, and adjacent markets


Preferred:

  • Typically 20+ years of relevant experience; 12+ years demonstrated capture or similar Civilian Department of Defense (DoD) experience

  • Advanced skills in assessing outside vendor competitive analysis and price-to-win target setting, by gathering data from multiple, often disparate, qualitative and quantitative sources and synthesizing it into meaningful reports and presentations

  • Demonstrated passion for ideation and innovation, as well as motivating others to act by creating a shared sense of vision or purpose

  • Possess a strategic mindset, linking technology and business

  • Team oriented with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Working knowledge of US Government budgeting and DoD acquisition processes

  • Experience with industry-specific research tools

This position requires current/active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Estimated Starting Salary Range: 

$268,492.05 - $402,738.08

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
