Astroscale UK & Europe are seeking an experienced AWS Engineer to support our evolving and growing mission IT systems. This is a superb opportunity to work with innovative technologies and deliver the benefits of cloud computing to engineering teams. We need someone who is self-motivated, can work to tight deadlines and respond to change quickly. We need someone diligent, who documents well, who communicates with others well and works effectively in a large group of disparate stakeholders.


Working under the direction of the Global Technical Architect, the post holder will deploy VPCs, networking solutions and virtual machines to enable core business functions. It is expected that the systems and configurations deployed will be automated through the use of various automation technologies. The post holder must have experience working with AWS at practitioner level with or without the associated qualification.



Responsibilities 

The primary focus of this role is the configuration, management and maintenance of our growing AWS estate:


  • Running an effective support desk. Utilising Astroscale tools to resolve issues within SLAs.
  • Supporting existing projects using AWS, deploying new VPCs, IAM, EC2, network configurations and storage.
  • Automation and configuration as code; utilizing tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Installation and configuration of virtual machines to include Linux and Windows, often debugging third-party application software, or automating its installation.
  • Proactive maintenance and refinement of the estate and ongoing support, contribution to cost management and security patching of the environments.


As we are a growing team, the post-holder will also form part of the broader IT capability and would be expected to contribute to other initiatives as required including:


  • Microsoft 365 management and privileged access management
  • On-premises capabilities as required where cloud computing is not the chosen solution.



Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in IT engineering or related subject.
  • AWS practitioner-level experience with experience in supporting AWS in a live environment.
  • Experience in:
    • Managing estates with Linux and windows, e.g., building, deploying, software management and reporting.
    • Configuration management and automation of Linux and Windows (scripting, group policy, Ansible, etc.).
    • Network communications, including VPN.
  • Proactive, self-starting character with tenacity and autonomy.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well on your own or within a team



Desirable skills


  • Experience in QA pipelines, e.g., helping support the pipelines themselves or the supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience in Terraform.
  • Experience in the support of Windows and Linux with a good foundational understanding of the platforms.
  • Understanding of IT frameworks and best practices (e.g. ITIL, COBIT, etc.)
