Description
Workplace Development Manager in the ESTEC Estates and Facility Management Division.
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the technical heart of ESA and the base for over 3,000 professionals contributing to the delivery of ESA’s mission. The site covers 40 hectares of land and offers a working environment to its international personnel, numerous state of the art research laboratories, Europe’s largest satellite test centre, restaurants, conference, meeting and sports facilities.
ESTEC is starting a project (named the Accelerated Investment Project) to renew and modernise the oldest portion (approximately 25000sqm) of its working environment to accommodate a significant part of its workforce.
Duties
You will report to the Head of the ESTEC Estates and Facilities Management Division and will drive the transformation of the working environment and play a key role in ensuring effective utilisation of ESTEC’s legacy and newbuild working environments.
Your duties will include:
• the creation and updating of an ESTEC workplace masterplan that will serve as the key point of reference for on-site directorates for the allocation of the legacy office environment, renovated modern working environments and newbuild workspaces;
• acting as the key point of contact for ESTEC customer directorates to explain applicable policies and guidelines for the working environment and to assist with the identification of optimised solutions;
• working closely with the Project Manager of the Accelerated Investment Plan (ESTEC) to ensure the timely provision of agreed customer layouts for those areas subject to refurbishment;
• working closely with key ESA duty holders and external experts to ensure that accommodation decisions are made considering the latest developments in modern workplace design;
• contributing to the identification, selection and implementation of software solutions to optimise the utilisation of legacy and newly created working environments at ESTEC;
• identifying and contributing to the implementation of methods, materials and processes for the working environment that contribute to the sustainability goals of ESA;
• acting as manager of the site coordination work package (that at operational level organises the set-up of the working environment) of the outsourced ESTEC facilities management contract in full cooperation with the appointed technical officer.

Additional requirements
You must also have strong communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Additionally, you should demonstrate the ability to lead change and transformation efforts and effectively oversee small teams of industrial partners.

In accordance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service.
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
