Description

EGNOS Subsystems Development Coordinator in the Development and AIVQ Section, EGNOS and SBAS Division, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.

You will be deployed as EGNOS V2 ESA Team Coordinator in the EUSPA V2 Integrated Team for the EGNOS V2 project managed by EUSPA, and will functionally report to the Head of the EGNOS and SBAS Division. This is an activity performed by ESA to provide support to EUSPA for the development related to EGNOS V2.
You will be responsible for coordinating and leading the ESA EGNOS V2 Team integrated in the EUSPA V2 Team. You will also be the ESA Design Authority representative in the EUSPA EGNOS V2 meetings and boards.

You will also be responsible for the coordination of EGNOS V3 subsystems development, and will functionally report to the Head of the EGNOS Development and IVQ Section. You will be responsible for coordinating, leading and reporting on the progress of the ESA subsystem leaders monitoring the industrial activities of the EGNOS V3 subsystems.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

•   coordinating the EGNOS v2 ESA Integrated Team:
o   leading and coordinating ESA team participation in the EGNOS V2 development and studies performed by EUSPA, such as the LIFEX project;
o   acting as the reference interface for EUSPA on EGNOS V2-related topics;
o   reporting on the status of EGNOS V2 to the Head of the EGNOS and SBAS Division on a weekly basis;
o   representing the ESA Design Authority in GNOS V2 boards and meetings;
o   coordinating the production and update of documents under Design Authority custody and responsibility (such as System Requirements Documents, SoC to Mission Requirements, Requests for Mission Deviation or Waiver and System Security Requirements);

•   coordinating the EGNOS V3 subsystems development, including:
o   chairing the ESA EGNOS V3 Subsystem Coordination Meeting;
o   reporting on progress in EGNOS V3 subsystems in the weekly EGNOS V3 System Technical Coordination Meeting;

•   participating in progress meetings with industry for the various projects of the EGNOS Division (including V2, V3, H2020, HE and ANGA);
•   participating in system-level reviews of EGNOS Division projects;
•   supporting the Division’s research and development activities (such as Horizon Europe, NAVISP and EGNOS4Rail);
•   contributing to the Division’s reporting activities (for example ESA-EUSPA FFPA Quarterly Implementation Reports and Navigation Programme Boards).

Technical competencies

Knowledge of large-scale complex ground and space system architecture including performance, design, interfaces and protocols.

Knowledge of the SBAS mission and standards applicable to EGNOS.

Knowledge of systems engineering and experience in technical procurement and follow-up of industrial development.

Education

A master's in physics, telecommunications, electronic engineering or computer science is required for this post.

Additional requirements

A solid background in satellite navigation systems, notably in navigation ground systems architecture, together with at least ten years of experience working in these fields.
A good understanding of the political and programmatic context linked to SBAS development in Europe and preferably experience of working with ESA and/or EUSPA.
Experience of working in a complex project setting and coordinating technically multidisciplinary teams is desirable.
Experience in procurement of industrial activities as well as in safety-critical software and real-time software development and verification would be a distinct advantage.
Experience is required in mission and system requirements analysis, system design, development, implementation technical follow-up, acceptance and qualification reviews, etc.

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills. You should be able to work autonomously, effectively, and cooperatively in a diverse, international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines.

You should also have good analytical, organisational and synthetic reporting skills, as well as a proactive attitude to solving problems.

You are willing to travel and you thrive in a demanding international environment.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
