Job description

Orbit Fab's mission is to create the foundational infrastructure that will fuel a bustling in-space economy, capable of sustaining permanent jobs in space.

Today, satellites cannot be refueled, which severely constrains their mobility and inhibits the development of economic activities in space.

Orbit Fab breaks the single-use paradigm, pioneering our Gas Stations in Space™ refueling infrastructure and RAFTI™ technology to deliver propellant in space, enabling lower-cost satellite construction, increased maneuverability, precise control, and extended lifespans. The possibilities are unprecedented, opening the doors to unimagined operational strategies and business models.

Since our establishment in 2018, we have already achieved the successful launch of three tankers to space. With offices in both the US and UK, we are working in close collaboration with partners and customers across the space industry. Orbit Fab is rapidly ramping up capabilities and requires exceptional talent to tackle important challenges. Our roles offer wide ranging opportunities to have a demonstrable impact and enable a bustling in space economy.

Mission: The Head of Operations and Business Development will serve as a key leader in driving the company's growth in the UK and European space programmes. This role encompasses the dual responsibility of spearheading business development initiatives while also overseeing key operational aspects of the company, including staffing, HR, finance, and overall office management. The ideal candidate will excel in building and nurturing relationships, managing complex projects, and thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Manage staffing needs, including hiring and developing the team.
  • Ensure alignment of operational activities with overall company goals and strategy.
  • Maintain budget control and financial oversight of UK operations.

Programme Management:

  • Ensure oversight of deliverables for UK and European programmes such that projects are on schedule and meet customer expectations.
  • Manage internal progress and execution against deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in programme management and business development, preferably in the space or related industries.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging effectively across teams and with external partners.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and proactively in a startup environment.
  • Experience in managing large projects ($1m or greater) with a focus on results and efficiency.
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience.

Core Competencies:

  • Expansive Mindset: Ability to identify opportunities and create win/win scenarios for the company and its clients.
  • Strong Communication: Effective at articulating concepts and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Autonomous: Skilled in creating processes to streamline operations and reduce ambiguity.
  • People First: Commitment to nurturing and growing a strong team aligned with the company's culture and values.

If you feel you would succeed in the role above, we encourage you to apply regardless of whether or not you meet all of the requirements listed.
