Job description

As an Avionics Test Software Engineer, you will develop and run tests for all kinds of flight electrical devices, from individual circuit boards to entire vehicles. You will primarily write software, execute tests, and review data; and secondarily develop, build, and maintain test hardware infrastructure. You will work directly with avionics hardware engineers, propulsion engineers, GNC engineers, and others. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all the stages of spacecraft development, from initial concepts to on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Test electrical devices to ensure theyโ€™re suitable for flight. Write the necessary software, run the tests, identify problems and help fix them
  • Be a spacecraft operator during on-the-ground spacecraft testing. Make the spacecraft do things, and review the resulting data
  • Learn about, design, and build dedicated test setups for specialized devices like optical, motorized, or RF devices
  • Support launch site activities by traveling with the spacecraft and operating it during the final checkouts before launch
  • Help commission new vehicles on-orbit by being on console and/or rapidly reviewing data

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in any relevant engineering field
  • 2+ years' of demonstrated experience with python, Labview, or other relevant software environments
  • 2+ years' of demonstrated hands-on experience testing electrical or mechanical products
  • Self-starter with a proactive drive to solve problems
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience writing test software in support of a vehicle of any kind (spacecraft, rocket, car, boat, plane, drone, etc)
  • Experience safely operating hazardous systems (high voltage, high pressure, etc)
  • Experience automating manual tasks
  • Experience running software on linux
  • Demonstrated success in root cause and/or failure analysis
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
