Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Engineer Software. This position will be located at Huntsville, AL or Roy UT and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure. Final grade level offered will be based on candidate level of experience.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Candidate will lead cross site software development efforts for the leadership team and will be primarily responsible for all levels of technical planning, the system integration for the team’s software, facilitating the team’s verification and validation, overseeing junior personnel’s work, and supporting the overall design effort.
- Candidate will be responsible for mentoring junior engineer team members.
- Candidate will be responsible for the overall communications of engineering design and implementation to Program Leadership and Customer.
- Candidate is responsible to ensure that all advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts are properly applied to the team’s overall design and implementation. Along with providing any needed complex solutions to ensure completion.
- Candidate will be responsible for ensuring all conversions of customer or product requirements into systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Candidate should have:
- Previous practical experience bridging requirements into software design and implementation including active work in DOORs and architecture models through detailed design documentation and into code.
- Strong experience Web application development such as:
- Javascript & Typescript languages
- Yarn & npm Build Tools
- Docker/Podman & Kubernetes/Openshift Containerization tools
- Familiarity with front-end user interface terms, concepts, and frameworks such as React
General technical skills:
- Unit testing & Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Understanding of Linux command line
- Familiarity with modeling concepts like UML, SysML, DoDAF
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools like Bitbucket, Confluence & Jira
- Knowledge with Agile practices & rituals
The selected Staff Software Engineer will join the Operational Command and Controls Team and will work as part of a team to design, develop, test, document and support software and automation tools.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
- Staff Engineer: 14 Years with Bachelors; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree
- US Citizenship with Ability to obtain, and maintain Secret Clearance with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification
General technical skills:
- Unit testing & Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Understanding of Linux command line
- Familiarity with modeling concepts like UML, SysML, DoDAF
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools like Bitbucket, Confluence & Jira
- Knowledge with Agile practices & rituals
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related experience, or 9 years of experience with a PhD.eb application development
