6 Month Contract based in Alton, Hampshire

Who are you? 

Due to continued growth we are looking for a Flight Assembly Technician to join us on a 6 month contract. This is an exciting role which will suit an enthusiastic, self-starting individual who is happy to work on a range of activities to support the spacecraft team. The successful individual will enjoy working as part of a team, will be keen to learn a variety of skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.  It will require someone who takes pride in their work, maintains an elevated level of professionalism and is capable of problem-solving and seeing ideas through to conclusion.  

 

Experience in most of the following areas is required: 

  • Hand build of PCA/PCBs against assembly documentation and schematics to appropriate ESA/ECSS standards (ECSS-Q-ST-70-61, ECSS-Q-ST-70-28, ECSS-Q-ST-10-09) 
  • Experience of electro-mechanical build and test boxes 
  • Working to electrical drawings, build instructions, wiring schedules and BOMs (Bills of Material) 
  • Clean room disciplines and procedures, including ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) 
  • The use of common cleanroom equipment, tooling, and cleaning processes 
  • The use of common chemical adhesives, epoxies and glues and the weighing, mixing and traceability 
  • Good working knowledge of health & safety requirements and controls 
  • Maintaining accurate work records, documentation & traceability of products, parts & workmanship 
  • It would be advantageous if the candidate also had certification for ECSS-Q-ST-70-26 and/or experience in producing prototype harnessing for product developments.

What will you be doing here?  

Your Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: 

  • PCA/PCB build within the flight assembly cleanroom team 
  • Hand fit of PCB components to flight quality 
  • Review of documentation and instructions prior to work commencing 
  • Review of parts to be placed on the PCA against Circuits diagrams and layouts  
  • Assembly of electronics boards into flight enclosures 
  • Liaison with the Electronics team to resolve issues and anomalies 
  • Build of associated test harnesses and test boxes  
  • Carry out appropriate configuration and change management processes 
  • Reporting of Progress and forecasting completion dates 
  • General AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) and EVT (Environmental Verification Testing) support to the spacecraft missions

We also offer ‘Space as a Service’ by flying customer payloads on our spacecraft and by providing customers the ability to upload digital applications to operate on our hardware. ISM was founded in 2015 and has grown to comprise approximately 100 staff. The company was acquired by BAE Systems in 2021 but continues to operate as a separate business with our offices and satellite cleanrooms located in Alton, Hampshire in the UK.
