This role is a part of Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to Business Units with the focus on design, build and maintenance of the ground systems, test and launch facilities across multiple locations.
As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will perform the detailed piping design of systems associated with space vehicle launch facilities. Typical systems support the transfer of cryogenic fluids such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid hydrogen and liquid natural gas. These piping systems are often vacuum jacketed. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

Perform detailed design and create shop drawings for launch pad and test stand vacuum jacketed piping systems supporting rocket propellants and pneumatics with minimal oversight

Coordinate between fluids design, CAD and fabrication teams to ensure requirements are met and that the process is efficient.

Perform structural and code stress analysis of new or modified piping designs

Collaborate on system safety and process hazards analysis

Create and/or guide creation of models, drawings, BOMs of designs
-
Create detailed fabrication work instructions for shop technicians, ensuring all requirements are met.

Draft and review specifications and statements of work
-
Coordinate with suppliers on costs, schedule, and technical design requirements

Oversee fabrication, installation, and commissioning of new or modified systems across various Blue Origin sites.

Provide input on cost, schedule and technical requirements to internal customers
-
Up to 25% travel will be necessary
Minimum Qualifications
-
Four year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline)
-
Understanding engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and design for manufacturability including GD&T
-
Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality standards
-
Ability to perform direct/root cause analyses when non-conforming conditions are identified and implement proper corrective actions
-
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with integrated teams
-
Experience with Solid modelling or plant modelling, design lifecycle documentation, and configuration control
-
Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings
-
Knowledge of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc)

Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII

Experience with fabrication, construction, testing and/or operations of piping systems

Strong written, personal, and technical communication skills

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Engineering degree
-
4+ years of relevant experience
-
Experience manufacturing fluids systems including but not limited to pipe, vacuum jacketed piping, tubes, panels, support structures
-
Experience in design and analysis of piping systems, experience using analysis tools specific to piping (CAEPipe, Bentley AutoPipe, CEASAR,…etc) familiarity with mass spectrometry leak checks and residual gas analysis
-
Knowledge of oxidizer system design and safe operating practices
-
Knowledge of hydrocarbon and hydrogen rocket fuel systems and safe operating practices
-
Knowledge of design and safe operations of fuel vent and flare destruction systems
-
Knowledge of hydraulics systems, components, and operations
-
Knowledge and experience in the design and operation of rocket launch acoustic suppression water systems
-
Knowledge of the design of ground based environmental control and life support systems (ECLSS)
-
Experience with Autocad or Autocad P&ID
-
Knowledge of precision cleaning processes / levels and passivation of stainless steel
-
Experience with vacuum systems and vacuum pumps
-
Experience with structural hand calculations and analysis software tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, etc.)

Experience supporting field welding and installation teams
