Job description

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for concepting, designing, and detailing mechanisms and components, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that produces high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.

Responsibilities

Design and layout of mechanisms such as electromechanical drives, linkages, release mechanisms, and rotating components
Perform kinematic analyses
Applying appropriate degrees of freedom and constraints
Determine appropriate materials for designs
Calculating loads, applying boundary conditions, and performing basic finite element analysis
Source commercial components
Test mechanisms on both component and system levels to validate and characterize design intent and requirements
Produce engineering drawings with full specifications for manufacturing
Update designs and documentation as required
Work with internal manufacturing group and external suppliers

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field
5+ years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design
Proficiency with CAD software and ability to learn new tools
Demonstrated ability to model complex shapes including lofting and surfacing
Familiarity with a wide set of manufacturing processes such as machining, additive, welding, forming, and composite construction
Demonstrated understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who is uniquely creative, self-driven, and is able to lead his or her own projects to completion
Creative design solutions to complex problems
Ability to work with and manage large and complex assemblies
Experience with Siemens NX
Prior experience with spacecraft design
Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
