Sr. Satellite Systems Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Generate, track, and establish processes for effective management of all spacecraft requirements  
• Manage and coordinate design reviews throughout the spacecraft design and development lifecycle 
• Track technical schedules and ensure key milestones are met in accordance with programmatic requirements 
• Establish tools and processes for effective subsystem interface controls 
• Create and update systems engineering documentation for different spacecraft vehicles (including but not limited to CONOPs functional decomposition, system budgets, tracking of technical risks, trade studies, requirement verification matrix, etc.) 
• Provide tools to enable smooth & timely trade study completion and architectural decision-making 
• Provide senior technical oversight to ensure the expected quality, rigor, and discipline of systems engineering is maintained 
• Look across projects to ensure process consistency and adherence to system engineering standards 
• Ensure development teams properly identify technical risks and opportunities, appropriate risk mitigation and action plans are put in place, and risks are retired to meet programmatic timelines. 
• Actively consults with Engineering and Manufacturing department leadership and technical leaders in other organizations, to ensure all stakeholders are represented in key decisions 
• Provide senior leadership in activities that ensure the organization continues to be a ‘learning organization’. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related technical field. 
• 6+ years of engineering experience in an aerospace engineering discipline (systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other relevant areas) 
• 4+ years of systems engineering and operations experience with a thorough understanding of the systems engineering domain 
• Demonstrated success managing and tracking systems engineering in a real-world space application 
• Working familiarity with applicable aerospace industry standards and best practices 
• Demonstrated expertise in conducting trade studies that optimize technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk to meet system need 
• Demonstrated expertise in performing requirement development and decomposition 
• Demonstrated expertise in performing system CONOPS development and functional decomposition 
• Demonstrated experience in the system test and verification process.

• General knowledge of spacecraft subsystems 
• Able to directly lead a team of engineering professionals in solving challenging problems 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with superior customer relationship-building ability, and business acumen 
• Strong presentation skills 
• Strong team building skills; demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and train both senior and junior personnel 
• Broad technical understanding of space markets segments 
• Broad technical understanding of different space missions (such as communications, imagery, space logistics, etc.), driving technical requirements, and associated concepts of operation 
• Ability to identify and resolve project issues independently 
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
