Lunar Transportation: This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. 

 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you as a test engineer supporting the Integration and Test team, will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Lunar Transportation is Blue Origin’s team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). Our Lunar Transportation team is developing our Lunar Pathfinder mission will demonstrate the lander’s core capabilities – including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture – on an early New Glenn flight.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, develop and execute test procedures for flight hardware
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers
  • Work with the design and systems engineers to plan tests of the integrated vehicle and subsystems, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the pertinent requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues and anomalies that arise during testing
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicates both within the organization and with direct customers
  • Have frequent inter-organizational and customer interactions on difficult technical issues
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews.
  • Manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
  • 2+ years of applicable experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with space vehicle component, subsystem, or integrated vehicle testing including functional and performance testing
  • Cryogenic systems experience
  • Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Understands/experience with hazardous operations
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language)

Paid Time Off:  Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays for all regular employees (including part-time), fixed-term, and interns.

Discretionary bonus: Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
