Lunar Transportation: This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.   

As a step towards this vision, Blue Origin is building the next generation of lunar landers. Blue Origin Lunar Landers (Blue Moon - https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). As a member of the Vehicle Test Bed (VTB)/Hardware in the Loop (HIL) team, you will be responsible for System Level as well as Verification & Validation Testing in VTB. VTB provides a platform to test and verify flight software before it's released for flight vehicle. VTB provides capabilities to do system level verification & validation testing, mission scenarios testing, mission training, procedures development and AI&T scripts verification. In this role, you will lead a team of assigned test engineers, work with System Engineering to define System Level tests, define how VTB design can support this testing and work with test engineers to execute system testing in VTB. You will also work with multiple stakeholders and subsystem for defining, executing, and scheduling tests in VTB. You will act as a gate keeper before any testing can take place in VTB. Our success will require your excellent communication and teamwork.

Because of the need for hands-on work, this position requires on-site work at Renton, WA.

Responsibilities included but are not limited to:

  • Lead Vehicle HW/SW Integration planning & testing, System Level Testing, Verification & Validation Tests plan and test execution in VTB/HIL.
  • Coordinate with the vehicle subsystem teams to integrate their subsystems in the VTB.
  • Lead coordination among multiple stakeholders for tests in VTB.
  • Technical Leadership at the team level; able to review the technical work of other test engineers, detect subtle flaws, and provide substantial design/test improvements.
  • Lead failure investigations, anomaly resolution and test readiness
    • Review and assess verification & test artifacts (tests plans, test reports, analysis reports, problem reports, etc.)
    • Develop processes/standards to improve efficiency of executing tests in VTB and reduce errors.
    • Guiding other test engineers in leading their own failure investigations
  • Assess the VTB configuration for each system level test and make sure VTB can support this testing.
  • Able to lead root cause assessment of complex system failures, completes requirements analysis, decomposition, and architecture of interconnected, integrated systems, and complex design.
  • Drive System Validation & Verification testing in VTB and assess that VTB design can support this test.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or related technical subject area
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in leading testing in VTB/HIL.
  • Experience integrating and testing space flight vehicle systems.
  • Team leadership experience
  • Preference for and ability to thrive as a member of a small, tightly integrated team.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or related technical subject area
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with the development and execution of a large-scale system integration and verification of autonomous spaceflight systems
  • Experience supporting testbeds for spaceflight systems.
  • Experience with programming in C++ and/or Python, Simulink experience
  • Demonstrated configuration management experience.

 

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is
$136,467$200,151.60 USD

Discretionary bonus: Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
