This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.
This role is a functional manager position for the Lunar Fuel Cell systems engineering team, reporting to the Fuel Cell Senior Manager. The team you lead will be key participants in developing, decomposing, and managing requirements and verification activities, supporting the system safety process, guiding day-to-day technical decision making, peer reviews, and gated reviews for the program across all blocks. In this role, you will be responsible to integrate the fuel cell system design across vehicle subsystems. You will also represent the Fuel Cell Generator component in cross-functional trades, interface definition and impact studies. This is a high visibility, high criticality role where you will get to make your mark from concept development to product validation and operations. Ultimately, you will partner with the Lunar Systems Engineering management team in fostering a system-of-systems perspective and culture and integrating systems engineering methodology throughout the life cycle of engine development, production, certification, and operations.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team.

Directly manage a team of systems engineers working to integrate fuel cell systems into our lunar vehicles. Be responsible for the people, processes, and tools that are essential for best-in-class performance.

Manage your direct reports’ professional development (e.g., hiring, performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance.

Develop Fuel Cell system design artifacts for one or more in-space architectures
-
Perform architecture studies, concept development, ICD development, procurement, verification planning, system integration, system build and checkout, and operations support

Coordinate in areas of vehicle configuration, flight sciences, hardware, software, system safety, supplier management, fault tolerance analysis / schemes, FMECA, FHA, and telemetry downlink / uplink

Develop interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and other design documents related to the Fuel Cell Generator component such as (Electrical Power Systems, Flight Computing, Thermal, Fluids, etc.)

Owner and key stakeholder of Fuel Cell component level requirements and functions and associated traceability/decomposition.

Contribute to the planning and execution of the system verification activities for flight and validation of system, sub-system and component requirements prior to launch

Support certification activities related to DC-178/DO-254

Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles
Minimum Qualifications:
-
B.S. degree or equivalent relevant experience in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or related subject area

Successful candidates in this role typically have 5+ years of related experience
-
2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for career management of employees

Experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
-
Proven ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions for a complex physical assembly
-
In depth knowledge of systems engineering practices (e.g., requirements development; standard verification methods; functional decomposition; standard diagramming techniques; risk and opportunity management
-
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex problems
-
Experience with requirements management software

Familiarity with fuel cell stacks and balance of plant components
-
Excellent written, graphical, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
-
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
-
5+ years experience on large engineering systems in industries such as aerospace or automotive

In-depth experience with Jama requirements management software
-
Experience developing products at any stage from early trade studies through final design, manufacturing, and test
-
Experience designing and developing flight proven spacecraft hardware
-
Familiarity with environmental testing (thermal, vacuum, shock, vibe, radiation effects, EMI/EMC, etc.)

Experience with Agile project management

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays for all regular employees (including part-time), fixed-term, and interns.
Discretionary bonus: Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
