Position:             Software Engineer III

Duties: Use knowledge of and experience with Interferometric Astronomy, Astronomical Numerical Analysis with Python, systems engineering for software design and software-hardware interfaces, professional telescope operating, and scheduling software development to support & maintain operations software for the Very Large Array radio interferometer telescope.  Develop software that monitors and controls scientific hardware.  Design and code hardware interface software. Ensure critical documentation is delivered.  Develop and maintain operating software for NRAO telescopes. Perform numerical analysis on telescope operating performance data. Work with operations, analysis, and science staff to ensure software all is functioning properly.

 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Astronomy, Computer Science, or a related field plus three years of experience reflecting demonstrable ability in the skill set described above. Required skills and knowledge of tools and technology may be acquired through academic research work.
