Description:This role will require an active TS/SCI to start with the ability to obtain a Polygraph to support classified work on-site in Sunnyvale, CA.
We are searching for a Senior Research Scientist to join our exceptional team. In this role you will support the Space Security & Communications: Special Studies & Mission Concepts team by supporting our IRAD & CRAD programs to perform performance analysis, design, and trade studies of optical systems and sensors for our technology development efforts and mission concept studies.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Performing radiometric sensitivity analysis for bandpass selection, aperture size, sensor selection and optical architectures
• System to Payload level decomposition of requirements for payload optical systems
• Support mission studies and trades to shape and define potential mission architectures
• Support/lead execution of department IRAD/CRAD and deliver technical presentations of analysis results
• Performing mission engineering, modeling & simulation, and analysis to support architecture and CONOPs development for new and emerging missions
• Maturing space mission designs from mission definition to spacecraft design
• Supporting IRAD and CRAD projects as well as partner organizations to define future space system concepts
You should also demonstrate strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or closely related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with optical designs and space sensors.
• US Citizenship with an active TS/SCI and ability to obtain a Polygraph.
Desired Skills:
• 3+ years of proven technical optical payload/system design experience.
• Experience in MATLAB, STK, DIRSIG, orbital configurations and constellations.
• Experience performing mission and architecture studies using modeling and analysis tools including Systems Tool Kit (STK), MATLAB, etc.
• Experience working in R&D environment.
• Strong communication skills.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, or Washington is $85,900 - $164,600. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $98,800 - $186,100. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
