  • Lead a small team of radiation engineers. Allocate human and physical resources to ongoing projects, resolve resource conflicts, ensure good coordination and provide reporting as required. 
  • Create synergies among electronics, software, simulation, mechanical and optical teams. Facilitate creation of strategies, processes and methodologies for improving radiation tolerance and overall resilience of our space optical communication systems.
  • Be very proactive in creating awareness and educating the electronics design team of the design constraints imposed by radiation. Ensure documentation, test reports and databases are maintained, accessible and properly used by electronics designers. Contribute to documentation, test reports and database maintenance as needed.
  • Perform radiation simulations for space environment and determine radiation requirements to be met by our electronic designs.
  • Lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary task forces targeted at solving technical issues, preparing proposals, conducting feasibility studies and securing opportunities. Present Mynaric’s radiation testing strategy and results during customer product design reviews.
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with test facilities (TID, Proton, Heavy Ion). Coordinate, prepare, supervise and / or execute component level and system level radiation tests (TID, Proton, etc.) and relevant facility bookings. 
  • Perform system and electronic board design reviews of very complex and cutting edge technology electronic systems. 
  • Provide disciplinary leadership: Manage and motivate the team, monitor execution, manage performance, decide on recruitment, promotions and salary reviews. Ensure that the size of the team and the skills available are in line with the company’s business objectives. Foster a collaborative and innovative working environment where people can perform at their best.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members, assisting with problem solving and technical challenges.

What you bring with you

  • A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in radiation for space systems and components and some years of experience in either a people management position (Team Leader level) or project / technical management position where leadership, technical coordination and motivation are fundamental in successful execution of projects.
  • Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable in taking decisions under significant uncertainty and incomplete or inconclusive data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with radiation analysis tools such as SPENVIS or CREME96, FastRAD, OMERE
  • Experience with radiation testing and analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of space radiation environments and effects on electronic and mechanical components
  • Extensive experience in participating in / conducting / leading design reviews and other project milestone reviews is a plus
  • A plus would be some experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD design tools (Altium preferred but not necessary).
  • Experience even beyond the electronics domain for a very broad knowledge and consultancy level
  • Having a background in the laser and electro-optics sector, besides the pure electronics sector is a plus.
  • Strong English skills both written and spoken required, German skills are beneficial.
