Junior Software Developer - Global Data
GHGSat offers greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and government customers around the world. We use our own satellites and aircraft sensors, combined with third-party data, to help industrial emitters better understand, control, and reduce their emissions.
GHGSat’s capability is unique: we provide high-resolution, local measurements of atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide concentration from space. This further enables to detect greenhouse gas emitters and to visualize and quantify their emissions.
The Global Data team at GHGSat is searching for a candidate with 1-2 years of work experience in the software development field to join as a junior software developer. The mission of this team is to use data from third party satellites to detect methane emissions.
The primary responsibilities of this role will be to aid in the development of applications which process large amounts of satellite data every day. In this role, you will be exposed to software development applied to application development, data engineering and data science.
Responsibilities
- Learning the codebase
- Writing new features and debugging code
- Adding tests and test automation to the codebase
- Assisting senior developers in software architecture design and implementation
- Continuing to improve coding and problem solving skills
- Participating in code reviews and quality assurance activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science/software engineering, or related technical field such as engineering or mathematics.
- Knowledge of basic programming languages. Experience working with Python is a requirement.
- Unit testing and integration testing of software
- Knowledge of Databases and SQL
- Knowledge of how to use git and github/gitlab for collaboration.
- Strong communication skills. Can write clear technical documentation
- Can work well in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Passion for leveraging technology to help solve environmental issues
Qualifications (Nice to have)
- Familiarity working with image data. Any exposure to geospatial data is an added bonus
- Some knowledge of basic machine learning/computer vision concepts
- Experience with deploying applications using Docker
Qualifications (Other)
- Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance
