Duties

  • Serves as crew chief leading a team of government and contract technicians in the performance of aircraft maintenance and modification on aircraft assigned to the Research Services Directorate.
  • Maintains expertise in aircraft maintenance programs and develops short and long range aircraft maintenance and modification plans.
  • Performs aircraft troubleshooting and maintenance actions on the full spectrum of aircraft systems to include flight controls, avionics, hydraulics, electrical systems, and structures.
  • Monitors team performance for compliance with requirements, policy, programs, and procedures outlined in the General Aircraft Maintenance manual and aircraft specific maintenance publications.
  • Communicates with branch leadership and research teams to establish priorities and plans to ensure mission success.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factor: You must possess a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification. This certificate must be uploaded at the time your application package is submitted. Failure to do so may result in an ineligibility rating.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service

  • Leading a team that maintains multi-engine turboprop and turbofan aircraft;
  • Evaluating aircraft maintenance and airworthiness standards and requirements established by the FAA and manufacturers;
  • Leading a team and performing evaluation, troubleshooting, and repairing the full spectrum of aircraft systems to include propulsion, hydraulics, electrical, avionics, and structures.
