Summary of Responsibilities
Acts as senior technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or team leader. May lead or organize interfaces between Aerospace’s technical and management staff and customers. Coordinates large-scale technical efforts across program/project lines. Mentors less experienced technical staff and serves as a role model.
This position is a hybrid work model, with mostly offsite work, and some onsite work required in Chantilly, VA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Advise DoD & Intelligence Community (IC) space system customers on secure design and implementation of systems.
- Lead or participate in projects involving a variety of the following: vulnerability assessments, cyber security architectures, cyber security prototype/capability research & development, cyber system trade-off studies for various system designs or protocols, validation of network system requirements.
- Independently conduct long-range technical studies and reports; initiates studies designed to solve new technical problems and provide innovative technical solutions within cybersecurity areas of expertise.
- Review network architectures and identify any security, dataflow, or performance deficiencies, along with recommendations for improvements.
- Identify security vulnerabilities and weaknesses in software, hardware, and architecture designs for mission environments and be able to make recommendations for mitigation.
- Provide technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors regarding cybersecurity of space systems and recommended courses of action.
- Lead cross-functional teams and interface with customers and/or Aerospace program offices. In doing so, you may help grow the department by bringing in additional tasks/projects in support of further internal or external work.
- Perform cyber assessments in support of our nation’s most critical missions, in concert with other supporting agencies, teams, and subject matter experts; support assessments of critical components of various space systems regarding command and control of spacecraft to include (but not limited to): host security, software security, industrial control system security, network security, command link security and downlink security.
- Act as the organization's designated representative at technical exchange meetings, presentations, and symposia.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for Senior Engineer Specialist:
- 12 or more years of professional experience in cyber security, with 4 or more years working on/with space systems
- Bachelors or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security or similar technical area of study
- This position requires TS/SCI security clearance eligibility
- Demonstrable proficiency in one or more programming languages
- Proficient in Linux and Unix based operating systems
- Knowledge and/or experience of both offensive and defensive cyber security tools, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
- Understanding of threats, TTPs, and countermeasures associated with cybersecurity of space systems
- Knowledge and/or experience performing vulnerability assessments and mitigation
- Network engineering and architecture knowledge (TCP/IP, IPSEC, HTTP/S, routing protocols)
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
- Willing to travel approximately 20% of the time
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Advanced technical degree
- Experience designing, implementing or maintaining network devices
- Experience with space systems, including familiarity with space, ground and user segments, as well as legacy software
- Experience with static code analysis tools and false positive analysis to ensure space systems software does not have weaknesses and vulnerabilities
- Experience with NASA cybersecurity policies, procedures and approaches to securing their mission environments
- Experience with AWS environments and AWS security services
- Familiarity with orchestration and containerization technologies and related security considerations
- Experience with Agile methodology and team collaboration tools
- Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
- Widely recognized internally and externally by peers, management, program offices, U.S. Air Force, U.S Space Force and associated contractors
