Job description

What You’ll Do:

As an Orbital Analyst supporting Slingshot’s Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) initiatives, you will accelerate the security, safety, and sustainability of space via the curation, analysis, and provision of data products derived from the Slingshot Global Sensor Network (SGSN) and derived from third-party sensor networks.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Execute all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose
  • Exercise Slingshot’s SST software using real-time and historical data, and perform quality assurance on its outputs (e.g. calibration activities) 
  • Support ongoing and future transitions of Slingshot’s SST products and services to the SGSN, space operations centers, and other technology testbeds
  • Engage with our SST customers and other stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes for their mission-critical needs
  • Provide analytical and orbital analyst support to our SST customers and support SST-related training events
  • Develop software and shell scripts to help automate, monitor, and enhance data processing related to space operations
  • Contribute your expertise and ideas to help shape our products and strategies
  • Prepare technical reports and briefing materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above)

Pre-Requisites

  • Active Top Secret DoD security clearance

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree in a technical field from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in orbital dynamics and satellite operations 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor's-level degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience, including prior experience with the U.S. Space Force’s space surveillance and tracking software systems and orbital analysis tools
  • Experience reading and writing code in Python or other scripting languages

Location: Work onsite at Vandenberg Space Force Base (Vandenberg, CA)

Classification: Full-time Exempt (learned professional exemption)

Annual Compensation: $95,000-$145,000
