The Electrical Engineer II- (Avionics) provides support in the concept, architecture, design, build, verification and validation, and operation of our small launch vehicle for Low Earth Orbit and future operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans and procedures of the launch vehicle electrical, avionics, and instrumentation.
  • Design and write specifications to meet program requirements.
  • Analyze COTS (commercial off the shelf) and vendor-proposed avionics components to ensure proper integration into the overall vehicle design.
  • Develop test methods to efficiently complete integrated system testing.
  • Develop/coordinate test instrumentation requirements with customers, oversee ICD’s, procedures and other engineering artifacts related to test hardware.
  • Assist in sensor harness development including design, budgeting, procurement, verification, and integration.
  • Maintain automated test equipment configuration control, calibration, and traceability.
  • Write test procedures and manage procedural red lines and updates during test campaigns.
  • Support vendors to design and fabricate test equipment/GSE.
  • Integrate testing and operability features into new vehicle designs.
  • Participate in gated design and test readiness reviews.
  • Define and perform facility activation tests.
  • Monitor for the test, the team, and the procedure.
  • Maintain and operate avionics or electrical hardware and/or software.
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies real-time and provide solutions during non-conformance scenarios.
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks.

 

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university plus 2 years relevant experience with launch vehicle electrical systems.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary design and development.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work rapidly with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large groups.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills (written, verbal and graphical)
  • Experience with space vehicle Avionics design, development, test, and troubleshooting hardware.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics/layout designs.
  • Ability to use software to design schematics and layout/prototype printed circuit boards.
  • Demonstrated engineering support roles on spacecraft and spaceflight throughout the lifecycle of the vehicle. (Concept development, requirements definition, design, development, testing, and operation)
  • US Person as defined in 22 CFR Part 120.15 (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees and those given asylum in the United States, and temporary residents granted amnesty) since work includes ITAR controlled technical data.

 

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Demonstrated Engineering leadership roles on spacecraft and spaceflight throughout the lifecycle (concept development, requirements definition, design, development, testing, and operations)
