About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for various manufacturing, integration and test activities. The Manufacturing Engineer applies knowledge of engineering principles to identify, implement, and organize hardware integration processes. Phantom Manufacturing Engineers have the unique opportunity to organize and support hardware development activities at all phases of design maturation, from design conception through test and integration.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participating in engineering design reviews
  • Evaluating and approving drawings, specs, and other technical documents
  • Review engineering drawings and provide feedback to aid manufacturability
  • Work with engineering to develop quality processes
  • Assist Engineering in root cause analysis on process issues and implementation of improvements to prevent recurrence of quality issues and minimize scrap/rework costs
  • Evaluating and solving hardware development and production problems
  • Creating and maintaining processes, manufacturing procedures, and defining machining methods and tooling required for production
  • Monitor productivity and assure efficiency and consistency of work
  • Support the preparation and documentation of manufacturing methods
  • Support the design, development, modification, and implementation of equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process
  • Reinforce proper use of all safety regulations and equipment used in manufacturing
  • Interface between design engineering and manufacturing technician teams
  • Support hardware integration and test activities
  • Identify and manage external-supplier-produced materials and hardware
  • Support supply chain team including quoting of materials and hardware receiving inspections
  • Support in house manufacturing with tooling design and equipment selection
  • Plan and conduct hardware tests on models, prototypes and production hardware
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant engineering and field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and/or aerospace integrated system design
  • Experience in process definition, development, deployment, and qualification
  • Familiarity with launch vehicle hardware fabrication and test activities
  • Familiarity with integration of liquid rocket propulsion systems
  • Proficient in CAD design tools (Onshape & Solidworks are preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or schematics, including GD&T
  • Hardware acceptance, environmental, & design verification testing experience
  • Excellent communication skills within a cross-functional team environment

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.  All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. laws.  Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
