Job description
A thriving economy in space is needed to make life on Earth more vibrant, sustainable, and equitable. Space technology will enable global access to information, solutions to climate change, answers to global food security, products that transform healthcare, clean energy production, and more. Today, rocket launch options are slow, expensive, and unreliable. Stoke is building the world’s most efficient fully and rapidly reusable rocket designed to fly daily that will radically increase access to space and open up the space economy to safeguard our precious home, Earth.
Description
Reusable systems are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. As the Launch Site Lead at our Cape Canaveral location, you will own all activities related to developing, commissioning, and operating the launch infrastructure for Stoke’s fully reusable and highly operational launch vehicle. You will work across the product lifecycle from initial requirements definition, design, procurement, integration, integrated test and commissioning, operations, maintenance, and iterative improvements. You will lead a team of engineers, technicians, and external contractors to execute these responsibilities. You should be organized, a good communicator, able to understand complex technical systems to make sound engineering decisions, and able to motivate a team to follow you. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed launch site requirements, layout, and conceptual design in coordination with the launch vehicle engineering team.
- In coordination with Stoke’s Director of Range Operations, incorporate launch site design elements, perform verification analysis, and prepare documentation necessary for approval for hazardous ground operations and launch operations from the Eastern Range.
- Build and manage a team of direct employees and external contractors to develop and operate the launch site.
- Supervise the detailed design, component procurement, integration, and commissioning of launch site infrastructure.
- Manage ground infrastructure operations for recurring launch site activities such as launch vehicle static fire, launch, and landing events.
- Continuously improve launch site infrastructure design and operations to reduce recurring maintenance cost and turnaround time between flights beyond the current state of the art.
Qualifications
- Sound understanding of technical fundamentals relevant to rocket launch site operations (e.g., cryogenic fluid systems, high pressure pneumatic systems, civil engineering, instrumentation and controls, safety protocols for hazardous operations)
- Demonstrated experience working on one or more development projects through the full lifecycle, from concept through operations, on an aerospace or similar highly integrated product
- Proficiency working with interdisciplinary technical teams (e.g., mechanical, civil, fluid systems, electrical, software), including both engineers and technicians
- Demonstrated experience with project/program leadership including budget, schedule, and personnel management for large-scale hardware development projects
- Experience working with SLD45, FAA, or other relevant local regulatory agencies is preferred.
- Ability to lead
- Ability to follow
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, or sufficient relevant technical knowledge from work experience
