Job description

Company Overview:

A rocket company at the core, Relativity Space is on a mission to become the next great commercial launch company. Meeting the needs of a growing demand for space infrastructure, our rockets will revolutionize how we connect and communicate on Earth by getting satellites to space. We have developed a vertically integrated technology platform in which we leverage additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and autonomous robotics to 3D print rockets. Our unique approach enables rapid product iteration, allowing us to push the boundaries of what's possible today and unlock the full potential of 3D printing for tomorrow. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

Team:

The Stage Engineering Team is responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of our launch vehicle. As a composite pressure vessel engineer, you will be accountable for the ownership of high-pressure gas storage on the rocket as part of a world-class engineering hardware team.

You will work collaboratively with the structures, mechanisms, fluids, avionics, additive, manufacturing, test and loads teams to design and execute a plan for gas storage necessary to successfully launch and recover a rocket. A high degree of autonomy along with an ability to prioritize work in our fast-paced environment is required. We believe varied perspectives & backgrounds strengthen our team. Prior experience in aerospace is not required.

What you’ll do:

You will be a part of developing the architecture for the upcoming Terran R vehicle. You will be responsible for charting the company’s path for gas storage on a reusable rocket, both near term and long term.

Here are some examples of projects you could be working on:

  • Partnering with third party vendors in the design and analysis of gas storage COPVs
  • Working with other thermo-fluid engineers on vehicle gas system design and operation
  • Establishing test campaigns for qualification and acceptance of COPVs
  • Performing tests and reviewing data
  • Supporting integration COPVs on the rocket
  • Selecting, vetting, and managing vendors
  • Performing trade studies to improve gas storage solutions for the near future vehicles
  • Assessing long term COPV design and manufacturing plans

What you need to know:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and success in delivering complex products with minimal guidance
  • Working knowledge of pressure vessel engineering fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of fluid and mechanical system design and operation

Nice to haves but not required:

  • 5+ years of aerospace or mechanical design experience
  • Experience with COPVs or other composite structures
  • Experience in a creative and fast-paced development environment
  • Strong problem solver with great organization skills
  • Experience with CAD
  • Experience with launch vehicle systems
