Senior Data Scientist

What we can do together

As the Senior Data Scientist for an advanced space project focusing on 5G telecommunications by satellites, your mission will be to participate in the definition, implementation and testing of algorithms using Operational Research (OR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques for the needs of Thales Alenia Space on large combinatorial problems in the context of mega-constellations.

Your key responsibilities will additionally include:

• Technology watch to follow developments in OR/AI
• Mathematical analysis of new RO/AI technologies
• Select, design, validate and implement algorithms for large combinatorial problems in different space domains: resource management of mega-constellations, planning of space missions, etc
• Build learning, validation and test databases on applications, by participating in the development of simulators with space business specialists
• Define the general architecture of these applications, having selected the most appropriate technologies or solutions to meet the need,
• Ensure technical consistency with the development teams
• Manage study projects on these themes
• Actively participate in knowledge sharing within the service (pair programming, tutorials, presentations, etc).

You will also be fully integrated into the whole team of Thales Alenia Space Luxembourg, working with engineers and developers dedicated to other projects, and potentially contributing on other projects.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with an PhD or Master’s Degree in mathematics or another related field. The ideal candidate should have:

• a strong background in AI algorithms;
• a proven record of accomplishment in the implementation of machine learning-based solutions and /or applied to telecommunication;
• excellent communication skills with a team-first mentality;
• high proficiency level in verbal and written English, while proficiency in French is welcome.

Experience related to any of the following topics would be considered a strong asset:

• Data science algorithms and deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch);
• Optimization problems;
• Data management and machine learning lifecycle;
• Programming languages such as Python and/or RUST;
• Git for version control.
