Pixxel is a space data company building a health monitor for our planet. We are doing that by deploying a constellation of some of the world's most advanced earth imaging satellites in lower earth orbit and an analytics platform (on ground) with tools that enable easy application of this data across a multitude of sectors. Our fully deployed constellation will be capable of beaming down daily imagery of any place on earth. This role will contribute towards the design and development of optomechanical assemblies for Pixxel's high throughput space-based hyperspectral cameras.

Responsibilities:

  1. You will assume engineering accountability for optical component, module, or subsystem design from concept through final qualification
  2. Shall coordinate with lead optical and optomechanical engineers and scientists in transfer to engineering prototypes
  3. You will generate component (active and passive) specifications, design, development and qualification in the lab and on-system
  4. You will have to processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders, and requests for quotes to suppliers
  5. Interacts closely with development engineers, supply chain engineers, suppliers, and QA to resolve quality issues
  6. Active participation in design reviews and delivering qualification reports
  7. It may be needed to travel (domestic or international) to support design and manufacturing activities including quality control and source inspection from time to time.


Basic Qualification:

  1. Minimum 4 years of Optical design experience, including a strong “hands-on” background with laboratory experience.
  2. Master’s degree or higher in Optical Engineering is required, as well as significant industry experience.


Skills/Requirements:

  1. Experience with sequential and non-sequential optical design and analysis software (such as: Zemax, FRED, Synopsis, ASAP)
  2. Experience with mathematical analysis tools such as MATLAB and/or LabView
  3. Experience with working in an optical laboratory and familiarity with optical metrology tools an advantage
  4. Experience with complex, tight-tolerance opto-mechanical design
  5. Strong command in tolerance analysis of optical systems, including the use of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  6. Exposure/knowledge about thermal properties, space-qualified materials, and adhesives.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents.
