AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.
Summary:
The Sr. Tool Designer will conceive, design and prototype tooling hardware in the analog and digital domains. Activities include design, documentation, prototyping and transfer to manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
- Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.
- Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings, using standard drafting tools and equipment or computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
- Modifies tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve tool life or performance
- Responsible for data entry, document revision and control of all generated information.
- Responsible for leading and directing lower level Tool designers in task, responsibilities and priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
- Good English written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- 10 years of hands-on experience with tool design.
- Proficient in Auto Desk Inventor/AutoCAD.
- Knowledge on GD&T in accordance with Y14.5, Y14.43 & 14.41.
- Experience with tooling hardware and software design.
- Strong analysis and practical problem-solving abilities to improve designs.
- Oral, written, and diagrammatic communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with other engineers.
- Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering related field or related technical degree or certification.
