About the Role

The Propulsion Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for technical and project leadership pertaining to propulsion systems, fluid control systems or major subsystems on Phantom’s launch vehicles as well as associated ground test equipment and ground support equipment (GSE).

 

The Propulsion Systems Engineer Lead supports and develops the team, leads technical delivery and also provides operational support to development and qualification test campaigns ranging from test plan/procedure definition, to test execution and data analysis. Additionally, the Lead will collaborate with other members of the leadership team to develop strategy and ensure delivery.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Rocket propulsion system design, analysis and optimization
  • Lead definition of requirements for propulsion systems, power systems and vehicle fuel and tank systems
  • Perform definition, coordination and control of the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle
  • Development of specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet regulatory requirements
  • Conduct configuration and design of propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria
  • Lead the use of various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance
  • Provide the definition and performance of certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components
  • Development of concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements
  • Contribute to reports, manuals, and other technical documents
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Propulsion ground and flight test, analysis, integration, design, installation and system support
  • Strong understanding of materials, mathematics, science, and potential safety and functionality problems and solutions
  • Excellent research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, project management, and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency with computers
  • Ability to develop and adhere to budgets and timelines

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.  All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. laws.  Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
