Senior Computer Engineer - Space Program
Virginia Beach, VA 23451

General Description: 

 

GTS is looking for a Senior Computer Engineer to join our space program to help design a hyperconverged computer for low earth orbit.  The candidate will work with a multidiscipline innovative engineering team to design cutting edge computer hardware that thrives in the harsh environment of space. The Senior Computer Engineer will be responsible for leading advanced research and development projects in the field of computer engineering, with a focus on innovative solutions for complex technical challenges. This role requires computer and system architecture, along with a deep understanding of emerging technologies and industry trends. The Senior Computer Engineer will play a key role in driving innovation and advancing the state-of-the-art in computer designs across various domains, including space.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead research initiatives to develop computer solutions to address complex problems in diverse domains such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data analytics. 

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to define project requirements, establish technical specifications, and deliver high-quality solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations. 

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and researchers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. 

  • Conduct thorough evaluations and testing of computer prototypes and solutions, analyzing performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and iterating on designs as necessary. 

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in computer engineering research, technology trends, and industry advancements, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and enhance project outcomes. 

  • Contribute to technical proposals, grant applications, and publications to secure funding and disseminate research findings to the broader scientific community. 

 

Work Experience Requirements: 
 

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in computer engineering, or related field, with a proven track record of leading research and development projects. 

  • Experience designing computer hardware for extreme environments and/or space applications.

  • Demonstrated expertise in computer hardware development 

Educational Requirements (or equivalent): 

ā€‹ā€‹

  • Masters or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on relevant research areas. 

  • Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as machine learning, cybersecurity, or cloud computing are advantageous. 

 

Working Conditions:
 

This work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment. Essential Skills/Experience: 
 

  • Proficiency in computer system design. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to formulate and implement innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 

 

Beneficial Skills/Experience: 

 

  • Experience with aircraft and space systems. 

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, cryptography, and secure software development practices. 

  • Familiarity with networking and distributed systems architecture.
